All of Christ, For All of Life

for all of Opelousas

Where It All Started

Christ Church Opelousas was planted out of a conviction that Jesus Christ is Lord over all of life. Planted in September of 2014 with a team of about twenty people that took the Great Commission seriously, originally meeting in the chapel of the Refinery Mission. Today, Christ Church Opelousas is full of young Christian families that are eager to follow their Lord and win the world.

We believe God is not finished with this city—and we intend to be faithful stewards of the ground he has given us.

Our Beliefs

What we believe to be the core elements of Biblical teaching:

Doctrine of God

We believe in one God eternally existing as one essence and three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, each of whom is fully God, yet there is one God.

Doctrine of Sin

We believe that sin has fractured all things, leaving the world in desperate need of salvation.

Doctrine of Revelation

God has made Himself known to the world in Jesus Christ, the Scriptures and creation.

Doctrine of Salvation

We believe that salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.

Doctrine of Creation and Providence

We believe that God created the world from nothing and governs all things at all times in all places.

Doctrine of The Church

We believe that the Church is the body of Christ sent into the world to shine forth the glory of God.

Doctrine of Humanity

We believe that all humanity is created in the image of God and possesses intrinsic dignity and worth.

"I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Ghost, and born of the virgin, Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into Hades. On the third day He rose again from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From thence he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost, the holy universal Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen."

Our Mission

Worship God

The primary calling of every Christian is to love the Lord their God, and the catalyst of loving our Lord is our worship of Him. The saints gather every week in order to ascend together to his heavenly throne, sing his praises, offer him our prayers, confess our sins, receive his forgiveness, hear the Word, and celebrate the sacraments.

In this simple gathering, the battering ram of corporate worship is swung against the gates of hell, God's people are made more and more into the image of Christ, we are supernaturally blessed by the power of the Spirit, and we are commissioned to the work of Christ to the world.

Worship is not an insignificant act. It is a God-appointed essential means by which his church flourishes and grows.

Equip The Saints

The work of the ministry of Christ is done by his people. The hands and feet of Jesus are his people. Both individual and corporate. The responsibility of Christ's church is the equip those saints to do that work, the work of ministry.

This is done through faithful teaching and preaching of God's word to his people, including the specifics of application. God has specific things to say and command his people in their roles as business owners, employees, parents, magistrates, children, and citizens - and we must know what those instructions are so that we may obey.

In other words, ministry is not relegated to non-profits or church outreach events, although those could certainly house some ministry, rather, ministry is all of life. Your job is a ministry. Your work is a ministry. Your life is ministry. Live it as such, in faithful obedience to Christ and his commands, in all of your life, and he will bring forth fruit.

Win The World

Jesus's church is a sent church. We do not only talk to Christians, we do not only bring God's word to bear on those who choose to follow Jesus, rather we are sent to teach and preach his word to the world. We are sent to all the nations, to disciple them, to baptize them, and to teach them to obey all that our Lord has commanded.

God's law and the testimony of our risen Lord are to be proclaimed to the world, and we are here to see it done. Starting in our neighborhoods, businesses, and our hometown.

We believe with Paul that the Gospel holds power for salvation, and so we wield that power in faith that God will fulfill his promises. That Jesus rules and reigns over every square inch of our world, and therefore, it all will be saturated and covered by his people and by his word.
